Manchester United play host to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday in another big Premier League clash, and Red Devils fans want Luke Shaw to start ahead of Ashley Young at left-back against in-form Reds attacker Mo Salah, who won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for February.
Young has started the club’s last three matches in that position – including the 3-2 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night – and he has often been a regular there throughout the campaign with Shaw, who came under scrutiny for his physical state when he came on against the Eagles, struggling for starts under Jose Mourinho this term.
The 32-year-old would come up against the speedy and dangerous Salah if he did start on Saturday, with the Egypt international the joint-top goalscorer in the top flight this season with 24 league goals.
Man United fans have been quick to have their say on who should start at left-back to try and stop the imperious 25-year-old at Old Trafford, and while one said “need to start Shaw on Saturday”, another said “hope Jose sticks with Shaw for Liverpool”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
@markgoldbridge if Shaw does not play to neutralize Salah with speed and physical, he will eat us up. Liverpool have the wingers we desire

Young really can’t start against Liverpool! Salah would tear him a new one, Shaw a lot better defensively and going forward

Mata deserves a start after yesterday but can't see Sanchez being dropped. Shaw and Bailly should 100% come in. Need pace against Mane and Salah.

Need to start Shaw on Saturday. Can't have Salah running circles around Young

Really worrying what salah could do to young on Saturday after last night Mourinho needs to pick Shaw on Sunday!!! #MUFC

For me the game changed when Shaw and Mata came on. Brilliant changes from Jose.
Taking Young off was a shrewd move by the Special One.
Hope Jose sticks with Shaw for Liverpool. Either way, our LB has to be in top form against Mo Salah.
