Just in case you have been living under a rock, Manchester United are on the verge of paying £100m for Paul Pogba. The Frenchman, whom they allowed to leave Old Trafford for a meagre £800,000 just four years ago is set to become the most expensive player in the history of the game in a deal that threatens to change the very landscape of the beautiful game.
There is a whiff of Man United paying over the odds for the Juventus ace due to their lack of Champions League football, but the level of over-spending hits home when you compare the 23-year-old to Spurs’ Dele Alli.
The Tottenham starlet enjoyed a fine breakthrough season with the Lilywhites in 2015/16, and as the stats (via Squawka) above show, there’s not a great deal between them, other than their £100m and £5m price tags.
Alli out-scored and out-intercepted Pogba in league action, while the Juve star only narrowly edged out the Englishman in terms of assists and tackles.
Statistics are not always the most reliable way of looking at such subjects, but surely £95m is a bit of a steep difference in value? Man United could have saved themselves a fortune with a move for Alli in 2015!
