Manchester United have put an “offer on the table” for Saul Niguez, but Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is reluctant to let his midfield star leave, according to Guillem Balague.
The 21-year-old has been aligned with a switch to Old Trafford over the course of the past few days, with reports having suggested that the Premier League giants have sent a delegation to the Spanish capital to thrash out a £15m deal for the playmaker.
Saul is highly-rated in his homeland, but despite netting five goals in 22 outings for Atleti this term his first-team role under Simeone is not clear, and has been muddied further by the arrivals of Augusto Fernandez and Matias Kranevitter this month.
And although the Argentine boss is desperate to keep his Spain U-21 international, Balague – an expert on all things La Liga – has claimed that United have put a proposal forward:
He tweeted in response to a follower: “offer in the table, but Simeone does not want to let him go.”

Saul is known as an energetic central midfielder and is being tipped to break into Vicente Del Bosque’s senior Spain ranks in the not too distant future.
