The Spanish stopper has been, arguably, the Red Devils’ best performer this season, with his heroics between the sticks key in returning the club to the Champions League – which appears likely to happen.
But with his contract due to expire at the end of next season, Real have been alerted.
The La Liga giants are believed to be looking at a summer deal for De Gea, with replacing veteran ‘keeper Iker Casillas a pressing concern.
However, United are far from keen on the idea of letting their man go and have offered him a stunning wage of £200,000-per-week to stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
The deal would make De Gea one of the highest paid No. 1s on the planet, but Louis van Gaal has confessed that it is the player who will make the ultimate decision:
“I am not the boss, but I want him to stay. The player is the boss so he can say yes or no.” he said.
“You will have to ask David de Gea (if he wants to stay) not me. We have offered him a lot of money.”
