Man United make Everton ace top January target

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has outlined Seamus Coleman of Everton as one of his top January targets and is readying a £20m move for the full-back, according to reports from The Guardian.

The Red Devils gaffer is set to be busy once again when the transfer window re-opens, with defensive concerns on the agenda.

LVG oversaw a £150m summer spend, but the majority of the club’s marquee buys were drafted in to boost his options in the final third.

Although a centre-back is seen as the most pressing concern, Van Gaal is desperate to add a top class right-back to his ranks after being forced to use winger Antonio Valencia in the role.

Coleman is seen as the ideal option, with the former Sligo Rovers man having emerged as one of the Premier League’s top players in his position last season.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has already revealed that he’s keen to keep the 26-year-old, yet United are hopeful that a £20m offer will be enough to sway the player and alter the Toffees’ stance.

A summer deal is seen as a more realistic option, but the Old Trafford outfit are eager to do business in January.
