Man United ‘make move’ for Brazilian defender

Manchester United are in negotiations with Palmeiras for Brazil U20 defender Joao Pedro, as reported by Metro.

The Red Devils have made a €4million (£2.8m) bid for the right-back, who has represented Brazil U20s on six occasions.

Metro claim Man United boss Louis Van Gaal was impressed by Pedro’s form for Palmeiras last season, where he made 18 appearances and scored one goal.

Van Gaal believes Pedro is one for the future and is eager to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.

However, the Sao Paulo club are yet to respond to United’s first offer.

Pedro, 18, recently competed in the U20 World Cup with Brazil, where he played alongside Man United youngster Andreas Pereira.

Manchester United have been busy this summer, signing Memphis Depay from PSV, Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton, Torino’s Matteo Darmian and Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger for a total of around £70m.

And last week the Old Trafford outfit confirmed the free transfer of Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
