Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tallied an all-important victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night but even beating Jose Mourinho, a bitter rival and a former manager of the club, won't be enough to save their season.

Manchester United have a lot of work to do if they want to salvage anything from the 2019/20 campaign and that's saying something considering it's still very much the early stages of the campaign.

Reinforcements, or rather quality reinforcements, might be needed going into the transfer window but it's actually failed transfers of the past that might haunt the Red Devils.

As was reported by a local Croatian outlet, Sportske Novosti, a couple of months back, Manchester United tried signing Dinamo Zagreb's Dani Olmo by offering around €40m (£33.7m) to land their target.

That was, of course, quickly declined and the young talent remained with the Zagreb Blues and has since set the stage completely ablaze.

The 21-year-old has played a total of 19 games across all competitions in 2019/20, scoring six goals and assisting a further six in the process as well.

But more importantly, he already has one strike and one assist in five Champions League games and also three goals along with three assists in Dinamo Zagreb's qualification rounds for the European competition.

A real test for any fan: Can you name all of these obscure Man Utd signings?

Without a doubt, he's been one of their best players overall, averaging two shots, 1.2 key passes and an incredible 3.6 dribbles per game in the Champions League this season.

And Olmo truly is a complete midfielder, one that's contributing both to the offensive and the defensive side of things.

His 1.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.4 aerials won per game in the same competition can surely attest to that.

Following his brilliant debut for the Spanish national team, when he bagged a goal just a couple of minutes after his inclusion, it doesn't really come as a surprise to see a plethora of other clubs now linked to his signature.

United really should've pulled the trigger and made more of an effort to bring him in last summer.

Now, they will have to try even harder to fend off the rest of the European giants.
