Paul Pogba refused to commit his long-term future to Manchester United when questioned on his position at the English club on French television.

What's the story?

Pogba's second season back at Old Trafford has been mixed. On the one hand, statistics of six goals and 12 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions are very respectable.

There is no question that the midfielder has flattered to deceive on many occasions, however, and his comments on French TV have strengthen rumours that the midfielder could look to leave Old Trafford in search of pastures new.

Pogba told Canal Plus:

“You can never be sure of anything. But contractually, it’s sure, yes. I can never look far into the future. It also depends how it goes with the club, how things work out.”

The fact that the France international claimed that he could not look 'too far into the future' will be a slight concern to United fans.

There will certainly not be a shortage of interest in Pogba if the midfielder became available, but he is valued at £81m by transfermarkt.co.uk, and United will feel that they are in a very strong position if the 25-year-old does express a desire to leave.

Should United fight to keep him?

Pogba will not need to be told that some of his performances this season have not been up to scratch, but Jose Mourinho's treatment of the midfielder, who has recently been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, has not helped.

There is not a player in the United squad more naturally talented than Pogba, and there is no question that he has the ability to be a star for the Red Devils if given the time.

He was again criticised following the FA Cup final against Chelsea, but the midfielder was effective in an advanced area, and there is every reason to believe that the former Juventus star will thrive alongside a better standard of player next term.

Pogba is yet to show his true value to the United fans, but the Frenchman is a wonderful talent, and the Red Devils should fight to keep him in this summer's transfer window.
