Manchester United this season, as everyone knows, have been poor, and look miles away from the great teams that won the treble in 1999 and the Champions League in 2008. Although there's plenty wrong under Louis van Gaal, one thing they desperately miss is wingers.

If you look back, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, George Best and Cristiano Ronaldo are just few of the great wingers that have graced the Theatre of Dreams, however, players of such ilk and quality have not been seen on the hallowed turf for a while.

Out of the doors have gone Wilfried Zaha, Luis Nani and Angel di Maria, as well as good attacking play from United. No longer are the fans excited to walk into the stadium, but rather a sense of dread can be felt.

Van Gaal has sucked the life out of United, and they desperately need to remove him and get in new wingers who can provide the good times.

Here are FIVE options...

Felipe Anderson

One player who looked to be moving to Manchester in January was Felipe Anderson of Lazio. Anderson, with six goals and three assists in 27 games, looks to be one of the new exciting talents to come from Brazil, and defines the Samba style of play. In competition with stars such as Neymar, Anderson struggles to get a look in for the national team, but if he makes that move to a big side, his time will surely come. United crave a winger that can cut in and not only score, but set up goals.

Antoine Griezmann

Another player who could boost the levels of creativity and potency is Antoine Griezmann. Though he has recently been deployed as a striker for Atletico Madrid, he made his name as a winger at Real Sociedad.

Griezmann is one of France's most promising talents, and would definitely provide what the fans are asking for. With 16 goals in 29 games he is consisten and is a player that can win games, score and set up his team-mates. Alongside his fellow countryman, Anthony Martial, the thought of the play United could carry out is mouth-watering.

James Rodriguez

With the unsettling times at Real Madrid, one player that looks to want out is Colombia's James Rodriguez. Though he has been utilised more as a central attacking midfielder for the La Liga side, he can also play on the wing.

Considering he does, supposedly, want to leave, he has already been linked with Chelsea in a swap deal for Eden Hazard, but at United he could grown more as a player. With five goals in 18 games he might be the answer.

Karim Bellarabi

There are many talents emerging in the Bundesliga, but one that recently burst through for both club and country is Karim Bellarabi. With three goals and three assists in 26 games this term, he has been in decent form, but he was more impressive last term, reaching double figures in terms of scoring. At the age of 25, he is soon to hit his peak, and would be the genuine winger United fans crave.

Leon Goretzka

Lastly one for the future that could perform for the Red Devils is Leon Goretzka. He would be a risky buy considering he is only 21 and not a consistent performer at Schalke, but with two assists in 20 games he should improve, and certainly in the future he has the potential to be one of Germany's best players.

His versatility in where he can be played is akin to that of compatriots Mario Gotze and Marco Reus, and we know how good they have been.
