Man United not in race for Bayern Munich star

Manchester United manager Louis van Gall will not push for a move to bring Bastian Schweinsteiger to the club this summer, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been dubbed one of the Red Devils’ major targets for the coming moths in recent days, amid talk that the club are plotting to land high profile names to rebuild after a disastrous season.

A £25m swoop has been reported by various outlets, but now it is understood that United have not made the Germany international – who is at the World Cup – a priority.

New manager Louis van Gaal is known to have a good working relationship with the Bavarians’ vice-captain after coaching him in the Bundesliga, yet the 29-year-old is not his focus with Kevin Strootman of Roma seen as a better option.

The Dutch enforcer is currently out of action with a serious knee injury, yet there is already talk that LVG could gamble on his fitness with a move before the new season starts.
