Manchester United are stepping up attempts to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to the Daily Mirror.
Though the 21-year old is under contract in the Spanish capital until 2020, he reportedly rejected the club’s moves to provide him with fresh terms.
The former Real Madrid trainee has quickly established himself as all but an automatic starter in Diego Simeone’s Rojiblancos side after impressing over the last season or so.
His versatile talents allow the Spaniard to be deployed across the midfield and even further back in the team, in more defensive areas.
Due to his La Liga exploits, a shock place in Spain’s Euro 2016 squad has also been suggested.
The report claims the contract standoff between himself and the Madrid outfit could prompt the Red Devils into making a summer move.
There is thought to be a £25m buyout clause in his deal at the Vicente Calderon, where has played since 2008.
