Man United open £44m contract talks for England international defender

Manchester United have opened talks with crocked defender Luke Shaw over a long-term bumper new deal with the club, report the Daily Star.

The England international is currently sidelined for a lengthy period after suffering a horrific double leg break during a Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven back in September.

He is expected to miss the entirety of this campaign, as well as Euro 2016 in the summer with the national side.

However, the 20-year old was in fine form before his ailment and was showing the sort of ability that prompted the club to splash around £30m to land him from Southampton.

His time at Old Trafford had been relatively frustrating to begin with, as he struggled for fitness.

Still, reports suggest that those behind the scenes at the Theatre of Dreams are set to table a new five-and-a-half-year deal worth around £154,000 a week.

It is understood that the Red Devils do not wish to see the Southampton academy graduate enter the final two years of his deal, which is due to expire in 2018.
