Manchester United have joined the growing list of potential suitors for Everton defender John Stones, report the Metro.
The England defender was the subject of three separate transfer bids from Chelsea in the summer, though the Merseyside outfit stood strong and refused to let the 21-year old leave.
Catalan giants Barcelona are also understood to be monitoring his progress with the Toffees, as the former Barnsley youngster establishes himself as one of the top centre-backs in the top flight.
However, reports suggest the Red Devils are ready to gazump their rivals in the race by offering £45m for Stones in January.
Despite Everton’s resistance in the summer, and insistence since then, it is believed that they will allow the player to move if they receive an offer they deem worthy enough of a sale.
United boss Louis van Gaal has underseen a major rebuild of the Old Trafford squad since his installation as David Moyes’ replacement, with around £250m spent in his two summers at the helm.
