According to RMC Sport, Manchester United will launch a £26m bid for Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam at the end of the season.

What's the story?

United boss Jose Mourinho is expected to be in the market for a new left-back this summer as Luke Shaw prepares to leave the club.

Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind could also depart the 20-time English champions at the end of the season, which would leave the club short of cover for Ashley Young on the left side of the defence.

According to RMC Sport, Mourinho has advised the club's board to submit a £26m offer for Ghoulam in a bid to land the highly-rated Algeria international in this summer's transfer window.

Chelsea and Liverpool have previously been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old, but it is understood that United are confident of winning the race for his signature.

Is he good enough for United?

Ghoulam started the season in impressive fashion for Napoli - managing two goals and three assists in his opening 11 Serie A matches of the 2017-18 campaign.

The defender has not been seen in a Napoli short since the end of October, however, with a cruciate ligament rupture leaving him on the sidelines.

There may well be some concern over Ghoulam's recovery from the issue, but a bid of £26m is hardly going to break the bank for the Red Devils.

The 35-time Algeria international joined Napoli from Saint-Etienne in January 2014, and has made over 150 appearances for his Italian club in all competitions.

Ghoulam is very much the modern-day full-back when considering that he is strong in defence while providing a threat down the other end of the field.

There is no question that the defender is a big talent, and Shaw's expected departure will leave United desperately needing to boost their full-back options ahead of the 2018-19 season.
