Manchester United are preparing to make a £54million bid for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
This past week United have sacked Louis van Gaal as their manager, with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in line to replace the departing Dutchman.
And with Mourinho’s imminent arrival, a plethora of players are now being linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
One of them is Atletico midfielder Saul, who is currently one of the most coveted players on the continent on the back of a stunning campaign – he netted a brilliant goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.
Man United believe they have an advantage in signing the Spaniard, with Mourinho and Saul having the same agent, Jorge Mendes.
But the Red Devils may have to pay a hefty fee for the 21-year-old’s services, with a £54million release clause inserted into his new contract.
Saul has made 47 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals.
