According to El Gol Digital, Manchester United are prepared to sell Ander Herrera to Barcelona for £22m in this summer's transfer window.

What's the story?

Herrera has become a real favourite with the United supporters since moving to Old Trafford from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014.

The Spaniard has made more than 150 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, and actually picked up the club's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award last season.

Herrera has struggled to hold down a regular spot under Jose Mourinho this season, however, and he will see his current deal with the 20-time English champions expire next summer.

Earlier this year, the 28-year-old hinted that he could depart United, and according to El Gol Digital, the club are prepared to sell in this summer's transfer window.

The report claims that La Liga champions Barcelona want the Spaniard to boost their squad for the 2018-19 campaign, and a bid of £22m is likely to be accepted.

Should United sell the midfielder?

Herrera's all-action style of football has made him a favourite with the United fans, and there is simply no doubting his passion on the field.

The midfielder has only scored twice and managed two assists in 36 appearances in all competitions this season, but he was excellent against Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, and is generally impressive in matches against the bigger teams in the league.

Herrera, who is valued at £27m by transfermarkt.co.uk, is a tidy and talented footballer, but Mourinho seemingly does not see the Spaniard as a starter next season, and it is difficult to argue with the Portuguese.

As a squad player, Herrera is absolutely perfect for United, but it would be wrong for the Red Devils to deny him a dream move to Barcelona just so he could drift in and out of the team.
