Man United preparing £40m offer to land long-term target before transfer deadline

Manchester United are plotting an offer of £40m to lure Felipe Anderson to the club from Lazio before the end of this month’s transfer window, according to reports from Football Insider.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Brazilian for much of the last six months, but have stepped up their pursuit of him over the course of the last few weeks after a difficult start to the season for Louis van Gaal.

It’s already been suggested that an offer of around £37.6m has been rebuffed by the Serie A giants, but now reports claim that the club are so eager to get a deal done before the looming deadline that they’re willing to push on to £40m.

It’s understood that the last bid, of which £7.6m would have been paid in add-ons, was deemed insufficient by Lazio, but the Rome club are aware that his value may now be at an all-time high given that he performed so well last season – 10 goals and seven assists in league action.

Van Gaal’s United have been criticised for their ponderous attacking style this term, so the direct running of Anderson may remedy the growing discontent in the Old Trafford stands.
