Man United prodigy used as makeweight to sign Liverpool target

According to reports from The Express this morning, Manchester United are hoping prodigious winger Adnan Januzaj can help them beat Liverpool to the signature of Eredivisie sensation Memphis Depay.

The 21 year-old has been in sensational form since his nomination for the Best Young Player award at last summer’s World Cup, going on to claim 27 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.

That’s fired the Netherlands international to the top of the Eredivisie’s scoring charts and PSV to their first league title since 2008.

PSV boss Phillip Cocu has already admitted Depay will move on this summer, with Liverpool and Man United amongst the front runners for the £25million-rated forward’s signature – as The Metro reported in April.

And the Red Devils are planning to use Januzaj, who is yet to record a goal or assist in 17 Premier League appearances this season, as part of the deal to bring Depay to Old Trafford.

The Belgian wizzkid has struggled since the arrival of Louis van Gaal and is expected to be sent out on loan next season to aid his development.

Rather fortuitously, PSV have revealed their interest in signing the 20 year-old, with  sporting director Marcel Brands telling reporters: “If such a player like Adnan Januzaj would like to come and play Champions League football, you have a chance of making a temporary move.”
