Man United ready to beat Liverpool to star with £30m raid

Manchester United are ready to beat Liverpool to the signature of Roma’s midfield star Radja Nainggolan with a deadline-beating £30m offer, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Belgium international has been one of the Serie A giants’ key men this season, with his combative and energetic displays helping to keep the capital-based side in the hunt for Italian football’s biggest prize.

Nainggolan’s commanding showings have led to links with Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers thought to be considering him as an option ahead of life without Steven Gerrard – who will join MLS champions LA Galaxy when his contract expires in the summer.

United’s long-term midfield target is understood to have been Roma’s Kevin Strootman, however a knee injury appears to have ruined any slim chance they had of sealing a deal before the looming transfer deadline.

And now reports claim that Nainngolan is instead the man Louis van Gaal wants, with a fee of £30m needed for the enforcer – who is co-owned by Roma and Cagliari.
