Manchester United are ready to hand Barcelona’s highly-rated young goalkeeper Inaki Pena a vast pay rise to turn his back on the Nou Camp and head to Old Trafford, according to reports from the Daily Star.
The 16-year-old starlet is thought of as one of the very best emerging goalkeepers on the planet and is already being talked about as a future first-team player behind the scenes at the Catalan club.
But their hopes of seeing him rise through the ranks could be thwarted by United, who are reportedly keen on landing him early.
A £2.2m release clause has left the door ajar for the Red Devils, who could pay up and present the teenager with a 500% pay increase to lure him to England.
The player himself is keen to stay at Barca, though, and the European champions have offered him a pay rise of their own to stay put.
However, a number of players have left the club in the past to pursue careers in England, including Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas – albeit both returned.
