Man United ready to land world class £36m star

Manchester United are ready to trigger the £36m release clause in Nicolas Otamendi’s Valencia contract to sign him this summer, according to reports from Deporte Valenciano.

The Red Devils are believed to be in the market for a new centre-back ahead of the looming transfer window, with the shaky performances of his rearguard earlier in the season a concern for Louis van Gaal.

Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has been mooted as the top target, but now reports suggest that the Premier League giants are ready to go all out to land Otamendi.

United are thought to have contacted Valencia in January to discuss a potential swoop, but despite a bid of €35m, Los Che held firm to keep their man.

However, LVG has not been deterred and is so keen to get the Argentine to Old Trafford that he’s willing to meet his €50m release clause (just under £36m) to remove the Mestalla club’s wishes from the equation.

The 27-year-old has been a key player for high-flying Valencia this season, with his robust displays a major factor in the pursuit of Champions League qualification.
