Man United ready to shelve January plans

Manchester United are only willing to pursue major targets this month, which may leave them without any major additions before Monday’s transfer deadline, according to reports from ESPN.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of big names in recent months, with central midfielders and defenders making up the bulk of gossip.

However, recent reports have revealed that they’re willing to wait until the summer to land Mats Hummels while Roma’s reluctance to offload Kevin Strootman is an issue.

And now ESPN claim that sources have informed them that United will only move for prime targets before the deadline, despite their desire to retain their current top four berth.

Stop-gap signings are understood to be unappealing to the club, with waiting for long-term options seemingly favourable.

Immediate impact players to have been linked with United include Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar, who is currently out injured.
