Man United star considering ending saga with transfer request

David de Gea is pondering handing in a transfer request in a bid to force through a late summer move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, according to reports from Metro.

The Spaniard has been linked with the La Liga giants for much of the summer, but despite Los Blancos’ decision to axe Iker Casillas, thus clearing room for a new goalie, he has, so far, remained a Red Devil.

United are understood to be reluctant to sell, even though Louis van Gaal has dropped the stopper for both of his side’s Premier League games this season, and reports have claimed that Real are willing to wait until next year to snap him up for free when his contract has expired – albeit with a hefty signing on fee.

However Metro, citing reports from El Confidencial, claim that De Gea is looking at forcing a deal this summer by handing in a transfer request.

Such a move would make it clear to United that the 25-year-old is determined to leave now rather than in 12 months’ time, and could ease a late deal.
