Juan Mata has hit back at former boss Jose Mourinho, after the Chelsea boss sold him in 2014, according to the Daily Mail.
The Spaniard joined Manchester United in January 2014 for £37.1m, despite twice winning the ‘Player of the Year’ award while in West London with the Blues.
Labelled a ‘luxury player’ by the Portuguese chief, he was shipped off to join the Red Devils just six months into Mourinho’s second stint in charge at Stamford.
However, he has gone on to dazzle in Manchester, becoming one of their key players in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era.
So far this season, he has played a role in 45% of the 25 goals his side have scored, and has already matched the 18 league goals he scored for Chelsea in 26 fewer appearances.
‘The stats don’t lie’, said the World Cup winner when speaking to the Times, ‘they are facts.’
‘If a luxury player is a player who scores and assists and has good stats, then I’m happy to be a luxury player.
Having joined Chelsea from Valencia in 2011, he won the FA Cup and the Champions League while with the Blues as well as being a key member of the Spanish squad that won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.
