Man United star signs new deal after shock U-turn

David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United despite almost leaving the club to join Real Madrid over the summer.

The Spain international came close to signing for the La Liga giants before the close of the window just gone, only to see a proposed move cut off by the passing of the deadline.

With De Gea having agreed terms, it has since been widely mooted that he would join them next summer on a free transfer when his contract was due to expire, however the player has committed to fresh terms at Old Trafford.

The deal, according to some reports, could be worth as much as £200,000-per-week, making the former Atletico Madrid man the most highly-paid goalie on the planet.

United confirmed the news on Twitter, revealing that there is in an option in place to extend the deal by a further year.

De Gea said: “I’m delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career.”
