It just had to be him.
On the day that footage emerged of Wayne Rooney getting knocked out by former teammate Phil Bardsley in a kitchen boxing bout, the Manchester United and England striker scored an excellent goal in his side’s first-half annihilation of Tottenham Hotspur – and this is how he celebrated:
While United’s display in the opening 45 minutes was arguably their best of the season, putting three past top four rivals Spurs in a rip-roaring display, Rooney’s iconic celebration will be the abiding memory of the contest. Balotelli’s “Why Always Me?” t-shirt, Klinsman’s dive, Ryan Giggs’s hairy-chested shirt-waving – it seems we have a classic celebration for every season, and this latest number from Rooney is right up there.
The 29 year-old would surely insist that his side’s superb performance is what should make the headlines. Neverthless, the skipper should perhaps invite his mate Phil over more often for some friendly boxing if it has this effect on him…
