Manchester United manager David Moyes is ready to step up his pursuit of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman, after sending scouts to watch the midfielder at the European U-21 Championships, according to reports from The Express.
The Red Devils have been keen on the 23-year-old for some time, but their interest was said to have cooled of late.
However, new boss Moyes is keen to lure the midfield enforcer to Old Trafford this summer, as he looks to bolster his squad in an attempt to defend their Premier League crown.
The Scot will have to cope without veteran Paul Scholes – who retired at the end of last season – and sees Strootman as an ideal replacement.
Chief scout Jim Lawlor was reportedly spotted at the European U-21 Championships recently, where the PSV player has started both games for Holland so far.
The Eredivisie giants are said to be holding out for a fee in the region of £17million for Strootman’s signature, but Moyes is hoping that he can negotiate a deal nearer the £10m mark.
It has been speculated that Lawlor was also watching Russian playmaker Alan Dzagoev in Israel, with the CSKA Moscow man thought of as one of the top young attacking midfielders on the market.
