Zaniolo has already become a regular figure in the Gladiators' squad, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 36 appearances for the club in the 2018/19 campaign.

Despite his young age, he's also been capped five times for his national team, scoring two times in the process as well.

By all standards, he could develop into a superstar in the near future and the Red Devils' interest is very much warranted.

But what do those who know him best have to say about his potential?

Let's find out...

Francesco Totti, Roma legend

Totti doesn't really need much of an introduction and Roma's greatest son is definitely someone whose approval you would want on your CV if you were trying to make a name for yourself in the Italian capital.

When he was talking about Zaniolo, Totti mentioned how he has everything necessary to become a great player in the future and if he says so, it must be true.

Here's what he said in full, as quoted by ESPN:

"He's like a veteran.

"He keeps it simple. Little by little, he's finding continuity and showing his ability. Nicolo is explosive -- he's strong, skillful. He's got everything to become a great player. But don't let him know I said that. If anything changes, it'll be my fault."

Mina Rzouki, Italian football expert

Rzouki is one of the experts on Italian football who has been following the development of Roma's young talent quite closely.

The BBC journalist claimed that Zaniolo is turning out to be an exceptional talent who's already dealing with the pressure of high expectations that have been placed upon him.

According to her words quoted by BBC, the 20-year-old is well worth the hassle:

"Zaniolo is a trequartista, he is someone who plays in the hole in attacking midfield.

"He is turning out to be an exceptional talent and, most importantly, youngsters these days have to suffer so much pressure but Zaniolo can stay composed and can do the basics even when there is huge pressure in an anxiety-ridden game and if the opponent is intimidating."

Paulo Fonseca, Roma manager

If someone knows Zaniolo well then it's definitely his current head coach, Fonseca.

After all, he's the one who's been giving the youngster so many chances and the one who thinks he can go on to become a top player in the future.

Here's what he said in a recent press conference, as quoted by Calciomercato:

"Capello and Zaniolo? I honestly didn't listen to the statements or watch the episode on TV, so I don't want to comment. I just say that here at Roma we all believe in Zaniolo's abilities, he has an immense and extraordinary talent. He must continue to work to grow. From the first days I arrived, Zaniolo has always behaved in a very professional way, giving everything in training."

Verdict

The experts have spoken and Man United seem to have done their homework on Zaniolo.

Needless to say, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scooping up Roma's talisman would indeed be a great piece of business and a long-term solution in attacking midfield.
