Man United target out of favour Arsenal ace

Manchester United manager David Moyes is considering a summer move to lure Thomas Vermaelen to Old Trafford from bitter rivals Arsenal, according to reports from The Sun.

The Red Devils are set to lose influential captain and centre-back Nemanja Vidic in under six months’ time, with the Serbian star having agreed a deal to join Inter Milan on a free transfer.

Moyes knows that he must replace the talismanic ace, and is ready to move for Gunners outcast Vermaelen.

The silky Belgian has barely featured for the Londoners this term after losing his spot in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI since the emergence of Lauren Koscielny and Per Mertesacker one of the Premier League’s finest defensive pairings.

United are ready to offer him a fresh chance at life in English football, and are hopeful that the lure of regular action will be enough to tempt him north when the transfer window opens.

Despite him being far from a regular at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal are still set to demand £12m for their man.

Vermaelen is known to be a close friend of Robin van Persie, so a deal could convince the wantaway striker to stay.
