Manchester United are prepared to offer Juan Mata or Marouane Fellaini as part of a £60million bid to sign Roma’s Kevin Strootman, according to the Express.
Strootman was linked with a move to Old Trafford all summer but new Reds boss Louis Van Gaal was forced to put an approach on hold while the midfielder recovered from a serious knee injury that ruled him out of the World Cup in Brazil.
But Van Gaal is now ready to up his efforts to be reunited with the 24-year-old, despite Roma demanding around £60million for his services.
But although the Serie A side are unwilling to budge on their price tag, they have hinted at their interest in a player exchange deal, with Juan Mata and Marouane Fellainin two names believed to be on their radar.
Mata’s Old Trafford career looks uncertain after the arrival of club-record signing Angel Di Maria this summer, while Fellaini is almost certain to be offloaded in January.
However, having spent over £150million in the summer and suffering a dismal start to life in the Old Trafford hot seat, Van Gaal has been told he may have to wait until the summer before being handed more money for reinforcements by the club’s hierarchy.
