Man United to sacrifice target for world-class defender addition

Manchester United will be clear to sign long-term target Mats Hummels this summer if they drop their interest in Stefan Savic, who is wanted by Dortmund, according to reports from The Express.

The German World Cup winner has been a player on Louis van Gaal’s radar for some time and is seen as a somewhat priority signing given the Red Devils’ issues at the back.

However, claims that the 26-year-old will cost them upwards of £30m are believed to have deterred the Premier League giants, who have been looking at ex-Manchester City centre-back Stefan Savic as an alternative.

The now Fiorentina ace is, however, wanted by Dortmund, who are believed to be open to a deal involving Hummels should they land the Montenegro international.

Reports claim that if LVG steps out of the race for Savic, BVB could allow their man to switch to the Theatre of Dreams.

United are also interested in Hummels’ team-mate, Ilkay Gundogan.
