Man United to sell midweek hero for midfield star

Manchester United are considering offloading Juan Mata to make room for Kevin Strootman, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The Dutch international is known to be a player manager Louis van Gaal admires, and he’s already been tipped to make a move in 2015.

It’s been claimed that the Roma ace will join United at the end of the season by respected journalist Hugo Borst, yet some rumours suggest that the Red Devils chief may accelerate his plans to January in a bid to ensure that his side finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.

Although Strootman’s long-term fitness is in doubt – he’s recently returned to full training after a serious knee injury – the midfielder’s current employers are understood to be looking to bring in around £40m for their man.

Even with LVG’s vast spending since arriving at Old Trafford factored in and claims that money is still available for buys, the ex-Bayern Munich coach is likely to have to sell before he can buy.

And Mata is a player he’s said to be ready to offload, with the Spaniard no longer a vital squad member following the arrival of Angel di Maria.

The ex-Chelsea man only moved to the Theatre of Dreams a little under 12 months ago, yet interest from Sevilla and Valencia is thought to be strong.
