Man United to solve issue with release clause-triggering bid

Manchester United are ready to trigger Valencia star Nicolas Otamendi’s £35.9m release clause this summer in a bid to solve their defensive concerns, according to reports from The Metro.

One of the big issues to have faced Louis van Gaal in his first season at Old Trafford has been his defence, with the exits of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand last summer having placed greater emphasis on the likes of Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling.

The trio have all struggled with injury issues, while new addition Marcos Rojo has been used, which has been a problem for LVG.

A number of players have been linked with moves to the Theatre of Dreams to help repair United’s rearguard, and it appears that Otamendi is at the top of the list heading into the summer transfer window.

The Argentine has been one of Valencia’s star performers in an impressive campaign, and although Los Che are keen to keep their man, a £35.9m offer will render them powerless.

United have the financial muscle to shell out such a sum, as they showed last summer during a £150m spending spree.
