Sir Alex Ferguson axed ‘Wazza’ from his first-team before retiring as he couldn’t adjust to play with RVP, and the new Red Devils chief is rumoured to have similar concerns.

It’s understood that the tour of USA will be used to assess Rooney’s versatility, and if the former teenage prodigy cannot adjust well Cavani is the top target to replace him.

The Uruguayan only joined PSG last year in a £50m deal, but is already thought to be agitating for a switch away from Ligue 1.
