Man United to use newbie to beat Chelsea to superstar

Manchester United are hopeful that the presence of Victor Valdes will allow them to beat Chelsea to Barcelona full-back Dani Alves at the end of the season, according to The Express.

The Red Devils snapped up the former Nou Camp goalkeeper on a free transfer recently, with the Spain international having been without a club for much of 2014.

Valdes has played alongside Alves through Barca’s recent successes, and Louis van Gaal is confident that his presence at Old Trafford will sway the Brazil international, whose future is up in the air.

The 31-year-old is set to be a free agent in under six months’ time, with his current deal, which he’s unlikely to be offered an extension on, due to expire.

Chelsea are also in the hunt for the experienced right-back, who is committed to staying at the highest level despite his advancing years.

Reports, however, claim that United are favourites to snap up Alves, with the club keen to agree a pre-contract with him as soon as possible.

LVG is ready to ask Valdes to convince the South American star to pick the Theatre of Dreams, even though Seamus Coleman is also on the club’s radar.
