Man United told to break record again for top target

Roma have are demanding £60m from Manchester United for midfielder Kevin Strootman, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Dutchman is rumoured to be Louis van Gaal’s top target for January as he looks to build on his £150m summer mega spend.

Even with such lavish levels of cash having been splashed, LVG is set to be handed yet more, with the United hierarchy aware of the importance of getting back into the Champions League after a disastrous 2013/14 season.

Strootman is seen as the solution to the midfield problems the Red Devils currently have, and the player himself is keen on the move.

The 24-year-old has recently signed over to agent Kees Vos – the representative of Robin van Persie – and has tasked him with securing a move to Old Trafford.

It is understood that he has contacted Roma’s American owner James Pallotta, but the hedge fund manager has laid down a £60m valuation.

United recently paid £59.7m for Angel di Maria, but they were expecting to pay around only a third of that for Strootman, who has been out of action with a knee injury for most of 2014.
