Man United too slow in striker transfer talks, beaten by BuLi outfit to top target

According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United are set to miss out to FC Schalke in the race to sign FC Basel striker Breel Embolo.

The Switzerland international is currently representing his country at Euro 2016 and has impressed at the tournament in France, combining power and pace with prodigious ability on the ball.

That, combined with a decent contribution to FC Basel’s last two Super League titles – notching up 19 league goals over the last two campaigns – has seen a number of clubs linked with the 19-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window, including Manchester United.

Indeed, it was reported last week that super-agent Jorge Mendes had been drafted in to conclude a deal with the 6 foot striker and his current employers.

But according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, United appear to have missed out on Embolo’s signature to FC Schalke, who reportedly couldn’t keep up with the ‘lightening’ speed in which the Bundesliga outfit brokered a deal.
