Man United turn to £51.2m star following Sanches blow

Manchester United are set to up their interest in Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes after missing out on Renato Sanches, according to reports from Super Deporte.

The Red Devils have been aligned with the 18-year-old for much of the past few months, but their pursuit ended in disappointment today as the teenager sealed a switch to Bayern Munich.

It’s already been claimed that Man United pulled the plug on a swoop for Sanches – although the reasons for this decision remain unclear – and reports now suggest that Gomes is in their crosshairs.

Like his Portuguese compatriot, the Valencia man plays in a central midfield role, and has been lauded for his performances on an individual level despite Valencia’s underwhelming season.

It’s understood that the Sanches blow will lead to Man United pushing for the 22-year-old, although they may find securing his signature an expensive pursuit, with the Spaniards not willing to sell for below €65m (£51.2m), and even then the club’s owner, Peter Lim, would have to personally sign off the deal.

The Manchester heavyweights are believed to have been scouting Gomes extensively in recent months.
