Man United turn to Juventus ace

Manchester United are considering a move for soon to be out of contract Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, according to reports from Fichajes.

The Switzerland international is due to be a free agent at the end of the season when his deal with Juventus expires, and has been heavily linked with a cut-price January switch away from Turin.

The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are thought to be keen, but United are ready to wade in and win the battle for the 30-year-old.

Although a centre-back is Louis van Gaal’s main target for next month, a new right-sided defender is also on his wish list, with winger Antonio Valencia having been used in a more reserved role in recent weeks.

Lichtsteiner is well-versed in playing alongside a back three from his time at Juve, and his ability function on either side of the rearguard appeals to LVG.

It’s probable that the experienced ace will command a minimal fee, with the Old Lady likely to be keen on cashing in rather than letting his contract run down after recent negotiations for an extension stalled.
