The 28-year-old striker is currently the top scorer in England’s top tier and broke the record for scoring in the most consecutive games in Premier League history after netting his 11th goal in 11 matches – against the Red Devils.
Vardy’s stunning form has led to links with a host of the big teams that the Foxes find themselves among in the table, and reports have claimed that a £30m valuation has been slapped on the former non-league marksman.
And speaking on BBC Radio 5Live, Savage urged United to pay up and sign the Three Lions star:
“I would give Jamie Vardy player of the year,” he said. “His achievement is just unbelievable. He’s not playing for Arsenal, or Man United or Man City. He’ll score 20 goals this season and that for me is enough to be player of the year.
“If I was Manchester United I would buy Vardy. He would offer pace. If someone were to bid for him in January and he asked to leave I don’t think you can blame the lad because he has had [success] late in his life.”
United have been heavily criticised for playing ‘dull’ football this season, with many fans having been heard chanting for Louis van Gaal’s side to attack more from the stands.
LVG’s men have netted just 20 goals in 14 games – Liverpool are the only side with a worse record in the Premier League’s current top six.
