Man United vs. Fenerbahce… The XI Mourinho should pick

Manchester United face the only opposition they’re yet to encounter in their Europa League group on Thursday night as Turkish side Fenerbahce visit Old Trafford.

The Istanbul outfit drew on the weekend and sit a disappointing ninth in the Turkish Super Lig after winning only two of their first seven games.

United’s form has also been patchy of late, although they got a creditable draw at Anfield on Monday night despite the dour spectacle.

The Red Devils have history against Fenerbahce and the last time they faced each other in Europe led to one of the famous Old Trafford nights.

For those with the capability to remember back to 2004, you might recall a young 18-year-old Wayne Rooney making his debut against the Turkish giants.

Not that it fazed him one bit. The Merseyside-born forward scored a hat-trick, instantly winning a place in fans’ hearts.

That love has been dampened recently and he doesn’t make it into the predicted XI that could face their coming opponents.

The game will, however, see the return of United favourite Robin Van Persie. He may have only given the Red Devils one good season, but that will always be one of the most fondly remembered campaigns of the era…
