Man United waiting to smash world transfer record for attacking star

Manchester United are monitoring Neymar’s situation at Barcelona and are ready to make a move should they receive any signs of encouragement, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.

The Brazilian superstar was a summer target for the Red Devils, who were understood to be willing to spend close to £140m to lure him to the Premier League.

Such a sum would blitz the £86m Real Madrid paid for Gareth Bale in 2013, and reports claim that Neymar remains a prime target going into 2016.

The 23-year-old is part of a star-studded Barca attack, but there have been suggestions in recent weeks that he could move on in the not too distant future in a bid to escape team-mate Lionel Messi’s shadow and further his claim to the best player on the planet.

United have not been shy when it comes to spending during Van Gaal’s reign, with the club having broken their own transfer record to land Angel di Maria with a £59.7m swoop last year.
