Manchester United are ready to smash their record summer spend of last year with a £150m quadruple move for Gareth Bale, Nathaniel Clyne, Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan to follow the capture of Memphis Depay, according to reports from The Express.
The Red Devils have all but secured a £20m+ deal for the Netherlands winger, and with the financial boost of a Champions League return and the Premier League’s new TV deal, they’re ready to break their record £150m splurge following Louis van Gaal’s arrival in 2014.
With attacking issues partly addressed by the PSV Eindhoven ace, LVG is turning his attention to the other end of the pitch, with a holding midfielder, centre-back and right-back, although he still wants £80m-rated Bale to add superstar quality to his XI.
Hummels and Gundogan of Dortmund are options to boost his side, with the pair valued at £30m and £20m respectively.
Clyne is the top target to slot in on the right side of a back four, with the club hopeful of agreeing £20m deal with Southampton for the England international.
United vice-chairman Ed Woodward has confirmed that there will be transfer activity at the club in the coming months:
“The squad will be absolutely deep enough and ready to challenge on all fronts, all competitions next year,” he said.
“That, as ever, does involve some ins and outs in the summer, which we’re not going to guide on in terms of number.
“Regarding this summer’s transfer activity, we have already started implementing our plans, and last week announced that Memphis Depay, who is one of the most exciting young players in Europe, will be joining our first-team.
“We expect to be active again during the window, but it is too early to give guidance on transfers or wages at this point.”
