Manchester United were interested in Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema over the summer, according to the Spanish club’s president, Florentino Perez.
The Red Devils and Los Blancos crossed swords in the transfer market for much of the window just gone, with the duo’s pursuits of David de Gea and Sergio Ramos major talking points.
Eventually the defender stayed with Real before the transfer deadline cut off De Gea’s proposed move to the Bernabeu, leaving both teams disappointed.
However, it was not just Ramos that United wanted to snap up from the Madrid giants, with Perez having revealed that the Premier League heavyweights were after Varane, Benzema and Bale, too:
“We know that United showed interest in Bale, Benzema and Varane,” he told Cadena Ser, via Goal.
Both Bale and Benzema have both been linked with United on multiple occasions over the course of the past few years, while Varane is considered to be one of the best young centre-backs on the planet.
