Man United’s £30m man must do better than this next season…

Manchester United’s new £30million man must avoid the type of calamitous defending that saw him get ripped apart by none other than Fernando Torres in a 1-0 defeat for his former club against Atletico Madrid last season.

Footage of Old Trafford’s new centre-back shows the Ivorian hesitating for what should have been an easy clearance, followed by a dreadful back pass, which the former Chelsea striker latched on to before making a mockery of the Villarreal defender – who comically slid past the Spaniard in Sol Campbell-esuqe fashion – before slotting home to put Atletico 1-0 up.

Questions were raised as to the enormous fee United paid for the young defender, with many fans feeling the club could have signed a more experienced centre-half for the £30m spent on Bailly earlier this summer.

One thing is for sure, if the Ivory Coast international is to ply his trade well in the Premier League, he will have to do a lot better than let himself be humiliated by arguably the biggest £50 million flop that England has ever seen…
