It's nearly upon us and it seems like the whole country is gearing up for the huge game between Manchester United and Liverpool this Monday night at Anfield.

For Liverpool, it's the chance for Jurgen Klopp's new-look outfit to real make a statement about their title chances this season. Meanwhile, on the other sign of the coin, it's an evening that could really make or break Jose Mourinho's first campaign in charge of the Red Devils.

It's been a little on-off to say the least for Mourinho's side, but you get the feeling an away win would really calm things down at Old Trafford.

And ahead of the big derby, we want to open the vault and take a look at some of the best strikes to have ever been dispatched by a United player against the club's bitter northwest rivals.

Over the years, we've seen some truly special goals but which ones do you remember best?

Here's our list of United's five best goals vs Liverpool...

5. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Quite simply this goal has to go in, even though it might not be the biggest pile-driver you'll ever see in your life.

We're talking about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's slotted effort that give Manchester United a 2-1 victory over their bitter rivals on that day.

It was during the 1998/1999 treble-winning season, which makes the winner all the more important.

4. Rio Ferdinand

Perhaps one of the more unlikely names to make this list is Rio Ferdinand, who wasn't exactly known for his goalscoring exploits throughout his career.

But he bagged this HUGE goal against the Reds ten years ago to give his side a last-minute 1-0 win and send Old Trafford into raptures. It's also the goal that prompted "that" celebration from Gary Neville in front of the Liverpool end.

3. Dimitar Berbatov

Whether you loved him, hated him, thought he was lazy or immensely talented, you certainly can't deny that Berbatov's hat-trick in United's 3-2 win over Liverpool back in 2010 wasn't special.

In front of the Old Trafford faithful, the Bulgarian but the Reds to the sword scoring a stunning overhead bicycle kick as part of his three strikes.

A great day for Berbatov and a goal that definitely deserves to make our top five.

2. Mark Hughes

We're going even further back in time for this effort, all the way back to 1992 in fact.

The goal scorer? United favourite Mark Hughes, who is now at the helm of Stoke City.

This was a strike that gave United a point after they came back from 2-0 down against their bitter rivals. It's a fantastic goal too - a real reminder of how good Hughes' first-time finishing really was.

1. Eric Cantona

To not get "the king" in this list would have been a tad insulting. There is little doubt Cantona's FA Cup-winning strike back in 1996 is more than worthy of making it in this top five.

Not only does it bring the silverware back to Manchester, the technique used to hit the ball first-time and guide it past all the players in the way is absolutely fantastic.

We'd expect no less from Cantona, would we?
