Man United’s loss could be Everton’s gain this summer…

Juan Mata may finally be heading out of Man United and in to the loving arms of Everton and Ronald Koeman.

Everyone knows that there is hardly any love lost between Juan Mata and his Iberian counterpart Jose Mourinho. However, the latter’s decision to substitute Mata, having only been on the pitch during Sunday’s community shield for barely half an hour, may be the final straw.

Mata and his representatives feel Mourinho was making a public statement in substituting the substitute, and it was an intentional tactic on the Portuguese’s part to embarrass and undermine the Spanish playmaker.

The fallout from the incident will be music to Everton’s ears, who have been looking for a marquee signing to kick start their new owner Farhad Moshiri’s own Goodison Park revolution.

Mata thinks very highly of Koeman, who gave him his senior debut for Valencia, and would love to work with the Dutchman again. Nevertheless, Mata felt he had to at least try and convince Mourinho he was capable of being a key member of Man United’s new regime.

But Sunday’s events may have finally confirmed what was suspected all along, that there was only ever going to be a peripheral role for Mata were he to stay at Old Trafford.

Once the Paul Pogba transfer back to the Red Devils has been confirmed officially, a culling of the bloated Man Utd squad will begin.

And the popular Spaniard is likely to be the most high profile victim of the clear out, with Goodison Park being the most likely destination if he were to stay in the Premier league.
