Having arrived as one of the world’s most expensive teenagers back in the summer of 2014 for £27m, Luke Shaw has endured a roller-coaster ride in his time at Manchester United. At the time of his signing, Ryan Giggs lauded him as a “very talented young left back with great potential”, and that he had all the “attributes to become a top player”.
Unfortunately for both the Red Devils and the 24-year-old himself, injuries have derailed his progress, and as per Transfermarkt, has missed 117 games in total for the club. But having made his recovery from his latest setback, Shaw made the starting line-up against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon. And whilst some of his other teammates at the back drew huge praise from some of the United support, the former Southampton man wasn’t left out either.
As per Sofascore, he made six clearances, blocked one shot, and made two interceptions as he formed part of the rearguard that kept out Pep Guardiola’s much-vaunted attack out for the majority of the game. And following his display, United fans took to Twitter to praise the left-back’s comeback.

Some United fans paid tribute to the 24-year-old’s ability to prove the doubters wrong, with a few supporters giving him credit for putting in an impressive display.
Thought Luke Shaw did very well today. Credit where credit is due. Defended properly and looked the part today. Fair play to him. Needs to keep himself fit now between now and end of season #MUFC

Give Credit to players like Shaw, Fred and Lindelof. They always get so much stick but have proved time and time again they are performing week in week out. #mufc

As is always the case with Shaw, can he stay fit for a long period of time to really stamp his mark on this United side? Brandon Williams’ emergence has really put the cat amongst the pigeons when it comes to the former’s long-term career at the club, but if he can be as solid as he was against City, then he has every chance of still forging a successful path at Old Trafford.
