Manchester United fans have reacted negatively to the news that new Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick for the club on Saturday.

The former RB Salzburg striker sealed a move to Signal Iduna Park at the end of December as Dortmund triggered his €22.5m (£19.1m) release clause.

The big fat United quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Man Utd?

The Guardian claimed that United were interested in signing Haaland but pulled out due to demands made by his agent, Mino Raiola, and his father, former Manchester City player Alf-Inge Haaland.

And fans have taken to Twitter to slam Woodward for his inability to bring the forward into the club after he came off the bench to score a treble and help Dortmund record a 5-3 win over Augsburg.

Indeed, Haaland was in precocious form for Salzburg, scoring 29 goals in 27 games for the club while he has also won two Norway caps at the age of just 19.

Of course, he appears to be a massive prospect who can only get better, his three goals coming in just 34 minutes on the pitch.

Woodward, per The Sun, was the figure who pulled the plug on a deal for the forward and it already appears to be another embarrassment for a man who has become something of a pariah among United fans.

Add into that the fact that United could also fail to sign Bruno Fernandes this month amid disagreements over his transfer fee with Sporting Lisbon, per BBC Sport, and one has to wonder if Woodward is the man to make the deals to take the club forward.

When he does get so-called marquee players in – the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Angel Di Maria spring to mind – it tends not to pan out all too well. Neither players are currently at the club. And when he’s targeting someone who would actually make an impact – Haaland falls into this category – he cannot get deals done.

United fans have every right to be angry with United's transfer head honcho.

Meanwhile, Man United have made a huge decision!
