Having endured a miserable start to the current campaign, Manchester United’s troubles went from bad to worse on Sunday after falling to a 1-0 defeat to a struggling Newcastle side.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men looked flat once again in the Premier League, and David de Gea’s post-match interview with Sky Sports certainly felt revealing about the lack of direction surrounding the club.
The 21-year-old took to Twitter to send an apology to the club’s fan-base, and insisted “you can’t hide in football and the last few weeks simply haven’t been good enough.”
If the striker thought he would be receiving a wave of support and heart-felt commiserations for his words, then he was left sadly mistaken.

Many supporters of the Manchester club hammered him for his role in the side’s demise, and urged him to do his talking on the pitch rather than off it.

You should’ve ended at “…you deserve better” and proceeded to step down from First Team duties with immediate effect.

I knew you’d type this as I was watching the game at exactly 75th minute. Why didn’t this tweet, like every other tweet after a terrible game of yours motivate you to play better? You were really terrible yesterday. You’ve been terrible all season. Annoying.

Do your talking on the pitch Marcus lad. Nothing else matters.#GlazersOut

You’re as good as the English Media made you be. Nothing more. Not up to UTD standard.
JM’s gone. Lukaku too. Sanchez, no more. Ibra long gone … deliver and you’re giving excuses still.
You should be at the Reserve team of Cardiff.

You and your weird free kicks are our problems. How can you be playing for United when you know within yourself that you should be playing for Cardiff.
— Senior man JANKULOSKI (@BOAKYEKINGSLEY7) 7 October 2019
Less talk more action please, if you feel that we deserve better then how about stop taking free kicks?
